So, I still haven't put an offer in on any houses. Hopefully we can soon!
On another note, I've been going a little baby crazy lately. I figured the best way to combat that would be to start making baby stuff! It doesn't have to make sense. So, after reading tons of tutorials and watching way to many videos on youtube, I've taken the dive. I made my first prefold a few weeks ago under the pretence that it would be for someone else, buuuuuuut really I just want to give away the shitty ones and keep my favorites (or less shitty ones) for myself.
Since then I've also opened an Etsy account to see if I can sell any of my creations as well. I've gone to thrift stores and am marketing them as upcycled and environmentally friendly because I am using already used stuff! I think it's pretty clever... also cheaper. So far I've found 3 flannel sheets that I've really liked, and finally have some idea of how to measure and cut them to be the most effective. Now, let's see how many I can pump out!
I've also delved into the world of baby mukluks, and am in the process of stitching a pair together for my niece. I think I made them WAY to big, but eh. She can grow into them. :)
Let it go.... this too shall pass
The life and times of a multi-cultural feminist navigating the shark filled waters of todays world, unbalanced family, and religion. Hang on, it's going to be a interesting ride!

House and Home
So, Rory (my long term boyfriend) and I are taking a hard look at the possibility of home ownership. I can't condone renting any longer. Why pay off someone elses mortgage when you don't have to? Mind you, I am trying to get a place with a separate suite to have some other poor schlub to pay off mine, so really, I can't hold it against my landlords. But holy smokes, what a responsibility!
They should be teaching a life skills class in high school just to prepare you for this! Land taxes, land transfer taxes, lawyers fees, mortgage rates, housing insurance, renters insurance, making sure the suite is egress, and the list just goes on and on. Is the roof good? How old is the hot water heater and furnace? Is there water damage? Hows the foundation? Separate utilities for the suite? The thing that got me the most though was having to pay an inspector just to LOOK for external things that could POTENTIALLY be an issue, and pay him REGARDLESS of whether you buy the house or not.
Geeze... New floors, drywall, renos, renting, painting, moving.... I'm getting exhausted just thinking about it. Will the buyers accept my offer, how much is too much? I just want to scream ENOUGH!
... and maybe I will.
Maybe I'm not ready to be that grown up yet.
I guess we will see.
